A thumbnail is read quickly and at a small size. The text should make one promise that the video actually fulfils.

A practical sequence

  1. Identify the question answered in the video and write several short headline options. Remove claims that require qualification too long for the thumbnail.
  2. Choose a real frame or relevant visual with space for text. Keep the main subject visible and avoid cluttering the image with several competing labels.
  3. Check contrast and Indian-language font rendering at the size viewers will see. Read the thumbnail on a phone without zooming.
  4. Compare a small number of honest alternatives using the platform’s available tools or your own documented process. Record results without claiming a universal formula.

An example to adapt

Headline test: can a new viewer understand the topic, and does the video deliver the implied result?

Try this on a short sample before producing the full campaign. Keep the original asset and an editable working copy, then review the exported result on the device your audience will use. For an Indian audience, check language, names, numerals and the meaning of any offer with someone who understands the intended context.

What to check before you finish

A dramatic thumbnail that misrepresents the content may attract the wrong audience. Do not fabricate an endorsement or a before-and-after outcome.

Watch or read the final result as a new viewer. Check whether the overall impression is honest, whether the main information is readable and whether you hold the necessary rights. A tool completing a task is not the same as the finished piece being ready to publish.
